Members' frequently asked questions

If you're already an Electric Umbrella member, you may have questions, and if you have, we've got answers.

Information for Members

  • When do your sessions run? Do you stop for school holidays?

We run most of our premium sessions (Face The Music, Feel The Music, Cyber Sessions, Crew Days, Pushing Boundaries) for 48 weeks per year, with breaks at Christmas and for staff training.  The exception is the Big Yellow Choir, which runs for 42 weeks per year, with breaks at Easter, Christmas and in the summer.

All sessions run during school half term holidays (except for on Bank Holidays).

Our Plug In sessions (EUTV, Singalong, Breakfast Club, Open Mic) run through the whole year except for a short break at Christmas.

We do not run any sessions on Bank Holidays in England.

  • How do we contact you?

The best way to contact us is via email on info@electricumbrella.co.uk.  Or you can ring us on 07727 555595

  • What are your rules about photography and videos?

When you join Electric Umbrella, we ask you whether you are happy to have your photograph in marketing material.  Because some of our members say no, we have to be very careful about posting images from our sessions on social media.  Therefore we ask members and their familes and supporters NOT to post any photos or videos on their own social media channels.  Any images posted by Electric Umbrella are always checked for photo consent before publication.

  • Where is the Electric Umbrella Emporium?

It's in the Marlowes Shopping Centre, Hemel Hempstead HP1 1DX.  More information is here.

  • How can I get involved in Electric Umbrella gigs and events?

Our gigs vary a lot in terms of space available, times and places.  We try to make sure that everybody who wants to do so can perform, but there is not always room for everybody at everything.  When we get a booking, we usually put a call out to all members asking who would like to be involved.  If you can't make it this time, don't worry, because another gig will come along soon!

  • What is the Pushing Boundaries programme?

Some of our most experienced members are part of our "Pushing Boundaries" programme, which meets on Tuesdays to help develop our communications and performances with schools and corporate audiences.  They perform to these audiences from time to time as well as taking part with other members in our larger public gigs.

  • How can I join Pushing Boundaries?

As with all our sessions, places are limited on Pushing Boundaries.  If you would like to be considered, please email members@electricumbrella.co.uk.

  • Why don't you offer "Carer Comes Free" tickets for your gigs?

We are keen to make our ticketed gigs as accessible as possible for everybody.  If we offer "Carer Comes Free" tickets, we would have to increase ticket prices substantially, which seems unfair and would be counter-productive. However, if you are performing at one of our gigs and need your carer while performing, then your carer doesn't need a ticket.

  • Are there Terms & Conditions of Membership?

You can find all our Ts & Cs here, including 2024 dates when sessions won't be running.
